The Claddagh is a local Irish pub located in the city of High Point, NC. The establishment hosts an annual St. Patrick's Day gathering filled with plenty of food, fun and of course beer. Patrons can find traditional Irish dishes such as shepherds pie, fish and chips, and many more. As for the brews, the restaurant features quite a selection on tap, but if you're trying to fit in, a Guinness might be your best option.
"You can't come to the Claddagh, especially on St. Patricks Day, and not get a Guinness," said Kyle Owle, a regular at the Irish pub. "You need to be festive at festivities."
And festive it was. The Claddagh was bumping since the moment they opened at 10:30 a.m. until closing. Traffic was coming in all day long to get the Irish experience. Live music was playing all day long, inside and out. The facility gets so packed that The Claddagh has to set up a giant tent outside to accommodate for more space. But don't worry, that doesn't put you any farther away from the bar and food. Stationed inside the tent is two more bars and a grill. To make the celebration even more mad, you can even ask to "green" your drink at no extra cost. In other words, the bartender can add food coloring to your beverage to taint it green.
"The atmosphere is great," states local Ryan Quiggley. "There's much to do and it's just a blast."
Quiggley has been coming to the Claddagh for St. Patrick's day for four years now.
"This year was way colder compared to last year," Quiggley said. "But luckily they have heaters outside to keep you warm."
It seems as if the Claddagh has everything to create the perfect St. Patrick's Day party. The only thing missing are some food and drink specials.
"It can get a little expensive," said Quiggley. "But regardless we are here all the time and enjoy ourselves every time."
One thing that makes the pub so great is it's care and service. The employees are always cheerful and trying to create a great atmosphere. Upon entering the restaurant, the first person to greet you is the owner himself. Stationed typically at the hostess podium, he is almost always there to welcome you to his establishment. Working at the Claddagh must be a pretty fun job.
"After going in so much, the bartender's eventually got to know us," Quigley said. "They know my usual order by now."
This years turn out at the Claddagh brought in hundreds. The establishment never seems to disappoint. As for next year, St. Pattys Day goers are excited for what the Claddagh will bring. Every year is just as fun, if not better than the last.
